Sunset Beach Bridge Update

The center support beams started to go up on our new bridge early yesterday morning and we were lucky enough to catch some action shots of the construction. Area residents were also out in full force for photo opportunities, despite the unusually chilly temperatures. Bridge construction has brought some attention to the normally quiet winter season of Sunset Beach. Progress is moving along quickly with the new bridge, which is set for completion in December of this year. If you've never seen bridge construction before, this is a treat. Those keeping track of the huge project will notice a big change to the structure as we move into late January. At the current pace, I'd expect to see beams crossing the large gap over the intracoastal waterway by month's end.
Traffic is flowing smoothly onto and off the island. I can't remember any delays due to the bridge construction since they started. This is really an efficient and clean operation as far as any big construction projects can be.
